1858 .36cal and Howell's Conversion
Thinking about picking up an Uberti 1858 in .36cal and was wondering about a Howell's Conversion cylinder for it. I noticed the conversion cylinder is for 38 special and not 38 Colt like the ones for the '51 Navy.
Is this because the 1858 cylinder is longer? Has anyone tried 38spl in their 1858? How is the accuracy? I will be shooting black powder mainly, but thought about the conversion for maybe down the road. Also, does anyone know if the same diameter round ball can be used in both the 1858 Navy and the 1851 Navy? Thanks, French Last edited by H.W. French; December 21, 2010 at 04:35 PM. Both the Colt and Remington 36 cal guns take the .375-.380 ball or the LEE 130gr conical.

I don't have Howell's but the gated Kirst I have I shoot 158gr HBWC pure lead hollowbase Wadcutters ...and shoot the same in my 1st gen.1872 Colt pocket .38colt/.38spl 5 shot, they work great for me.
I like Kenny Howell and his work and he make a fine product that he stands behind.
