223 center fire

I was looking at some .223 ammo for an AR-15 and I didnt realize the AR was a centerfire rifle. Are they all centerfire?

There are some AR pattern rifles made to shoot 22 LR, but the AR platform has always been centerfire. It has been made in many other calibers over the years, not just 223.

OK thanks jmr, maybe thats what I was thinking. Thinking about grabbing one of those Colts from Walmart if I get the chance. I understand thats a very nice AR.

Finding a Colt at WalMart can be challenging. I know people that go every morning at 6:50am to head off the shipment. Finding reasonably priced ammo is even harder.

Well while I was picking up my alotted 3 boxes of 9 mm today ($13.27/bx), I saw they had some Remington .223 JHP for $13.67/box (68 cents per round). Not a bad price considering I hear $1 per round is not unusual.

Mobuck, I'm assuming you're trying to make a point?

You are right that it's not bad considering. I think what Mobuck is getting at is that two months ago the average price was more in the range of 30 cents per round. Have you actually seen a Colt on the rack at your local Wally World? Just curious.

OK thanks Slappy, I didnt really know what he was getting at, as I have limited knowledge in the rifle world.
As far as seeing a Colt on the rack...the answer is no. They dont last long enough to display. My local Walmart will average about 1 per week, usually the Colt...but not always. Sometimes Bushmaster.

Swampman, you can usually have them order a gun for you, but it might not be too easy for them to get their hands on a Colt. Ask them if they can order guns, and if they can they usually give you a book of what they are able to order for you to pick out of.
