Lubrication

here is a fun one, and not usual at all.

what is the good lubrication for the cylinder pin on a colt percussion gun?

id like something that gives good rotation, but isnt going to need the same amount of cleaning effort as a still in the cosmoline surplus rifle from the ussr.

Bore Butter. I slather the arbors on my Colts with it and they will run 15 stages over three days without any problem as long as it isn't too hot or dry. I rarely have to relube the arbor for a two day match, and I never clean the pistols except for wiping down the outside and the hammer.

Yup, Bore Butter is great stuff for arbors. So make that +1.

I've tried several different types and thickness of products from bearing grease to bore butter. I think bore butter is less messy and as adequate as anything I have used.

Somebody on here I think used to advocate Pam cooking spray. I never got around to trying it.

I gotta go with bore butter for everything also! It seems to do everything needed to keep my guns running.
I keep my lead balls in plastic bags with a couple drops of Bore butter, It serves 2 purposes, to pre lube the balls for ramming and to hepl preserve the lead. I have had the Bore butter stick to the Balls after 3 months of storage.
Besides it smells good!

IIRC the PAM recomendation was for Remmies. It left a film on the pin that kept the cylinders spinning freely and the pin easy to remove.
