replacing sights on a Ruger Blackhawk

Hey ya'll I got a buddy who has a Ruger Blackhawk with bent sites he wants to replace. He thinks the front site is pinned. Anybody ever done anything with these that could give some pointers would be most appreciated. Thanks!

Front sight is pinned and silver soldered in place. Rear sight is a simple screw and pin (don't lose the spring under the rear sight).

If it's blued, the front sight is all one piece and silver soldered to the barrel. If it's stainless, it's pinned to a separate base. The rear sight is easy.

Newer Blackhawks the front sight is pinned and you can buy replacements at Brownells or Midway. Older models are not and you have to heat the gun (losing the blueing as you do so,) to get them off and then soldered a new one back on. I sent a vacquero to Ruger to have the front sight replaced and it came back with a newly blued barrel.

Not to be argumentative but I've never seen a blued Blackhawk with a pinned blade. Got anything to support that?

Is the sight bent, or is the barrel screwed in too far?

Send it to Ruger, through an FFL.
It'll cost about $20, and (most likely) result in free sight replacement and a barrel re-blue. If the barrel has seen better days, they'll even replace that while they're at it.
