Well, maybe receiver wasn't actually stamped, I didn't take it apart, but it sure looked like it. I know the barrel was pinned on the the receiver.

I saw a couple at the gun show on Sunday, Russian SKS all matching serial numbers, they looked to be in un-issued condition, priced at $595!? I guess they were nice, but I don't buy firearms to look at them, he's probably selling to collectors.

I must have a setting wrong, I am missing the standard quote button.

Probably is aiming at collectors... the Russian ones are rather nice, but with the SKS in general getting more expensive those have risen along with the rest. At that price you either want that specific type of rifle or you'll give it a miss in favor of an AK, Mini, or AR.

Nope, this board doesn't have that option. You can highlight the text you wish to quote and copy it (ctrl+c), then when you get into the reply window, you hit the button that looks like a quote balloon. That will put the markers for a quote in the text box- go in between the bracketed QUOTE identifiers and paste in the text (ctrl+v). If you want to modify it so it identifies who actually said it (like I just did), then in the first part where it has QUOTE in brackets, add "=USERNAME" where USERNAME is the person who said it (don't add the quote marks).

I stopped at the gun show in the metro Detroit area today and saw 3 sks's, all of them yugo's. They ranged in price from $375. to almost $600. for a very nice, but non original one. I was the only one looking at them, too. The dealers must not mind packing them up and taking them from show to show.
Everyone seemed to be interested in the AR's, some of which can be had new for not much more than that most expensive yugo I saw.

Quite a while ago the Gun Store in my neighborhood was selling the China Sport and Norinco SKS for $79.99 or two for $139.99.
I never did buy one then and do a bunch of butt kicking over that. I do have a very nice CCCP made SKS though.

I had a Yugo version made out of teak. I bought it new for 125.00 in 2005, and sold it for 325.00 2 years ago. That gun was a real junkyard dog.

Supply and inflation. I bought Chinese SKS's for $69.00 in the eighties. They are a little higher now. I think I paid $199 for a Russian SKS.

As for inflation, the Fed keeps on printing money, we are now into QE3, Fed Chief Ben Bernanke keeps printing money at the rate of $40 Billion a month, added to the $16 Trillion TARP plus QE1, QE2, it won’t be long till I will be saying “Why did I not buy gold when it was only $2,000 an ounce”!

I paid $345 OTD for my Yugo back in Feb or so. I think the going rate is around $350 or so right now for them. A modified SKS in my opinion would be worth significantly less than a matching # rifle in it's original configuration. While I regret waiting until they were so expensive to buy mine, I don't regret buying the rifle and think they are still an excellent value comparatively speaking. All surplus rifles have gone up in price, I can remember me and my friend haggling with a guy at a gun show over a # matching K98 that was priced at $125, what's that rifle worth now??

I knew I wasn't seeing things, the Chinese did make an SKS with a sheet metal receiver.

I have been looking at them more lately, I don't feel bad about the one I have at all, seeing what $300-400 will buy you these days. Mine is a 1967 26 armory type 56 SKS, most all original. Compared to other Chinese arsenals and some other countries, the quality of mine seems considerably better than many.
