Small pistol primers seem to be scarce
Some of Y'all suggested some good places to buy ammo and Graf has an awesome shipping deal. It seems like every time I look at a site they never have small pistol primers. When this happens how long does it usually take for them to get some in. Thanks, FullCry

Been a problem for a while my friend. Local shops get them, and then their gone in a day. Call around and see how often they have been getting shipments. Call as often as you can (daily) and if they get them, GET IN THE CAR!

You didn't say how many you want (HAZmat shipping fee), or how soon you need them....
Cabelas is showing 2-3 week leadtime, and I have read some threads where people are getting primers ordered months prior. Powder Valley has better prices, but I would expect delivery to be months away. But, the situation is better than it was! |

I've been lucky. My two local shops have had plenty every time I needed them.

It is getting better
I walked into one of our local shops today and powder was back in good supply, and there was a decent selection of primers...I got what I needed and left some for the next guy.
About 5 months ago I was in the same store and some guy walked in and bought every primer in the place and just shrugged his shoulders when staff asked if he really needed it all. |

My local Sportsman's has had a pretty decent supply of most types. I even went with my buddy so he could buy some too.(for me) They were willing to give 600 to each of us(Small Pistol). I settled on 1000 total as I had little cash on hand at the time. I have yet to find plain small rifle though. SR magnum and others always in stock.

Primers
We have primers again in Houston. Wideners had all kinds (but not necessarily all brands) the last time I looked. In SP they had some PMC which were well rated on another board. They also had Wolf, which I have used and served me well.

It is possible to use small rifle primers in place of small pistol. Due to a lack of availability, I chose to use small rifle. My loads with small rifle are at the minimum load for safety reasons.

Back when primers were impossible to find, I managed to locate some PMC small pistol primers and bought a box of 5,000 for $200. If you can't find small pistol primers, PM me and I'll sell a thousand for $40. I'm near Atlanta, so if you're local we can eliminate the haz mat shipping charge.

If you get a chance to go to a gun show, look for primers there. You will pay a little more for them, but after you consider what your haz-mat fee will be, you may come out ahead. That is if you are only buy a few.

There seems to be a decent supply of Wolf primers in various locations. I tried some and they worked fine. No loading issues and no firing issues. I used them in 9mm and .40 cal.

Hm, no more shortages around here.
The local shop that I stopped in the other day had plenty, except for small rifle. He said that he would be getting a bunch on his next delivery and didn't expect to have any trouble. Even offered to sell them by the case if I wanted.

I have substituted rifle primers for pistol. No change in results. I never use max loads in my reloads. I don`t care about getting the last 100fps out if it. If it shoots fine with minimal loads why go bigger?
