??? on 36 gr. Barnes Varmint Grenade
Hey guys, I bought some 36 grain Barnes varmint grenade bullets for my .223 but when I got home I could not find in any of my reload books any data for this bullet. Does anyone have reload data for this round. I saw in some forum that you could use the data for 40 grain to reload it but I wanted to be sure. Heard these babies completely vaporize little critters and wanted try em for myself to see if its true. I'd appreciate any info at all you might have on this bullet. Thx.

Hi, dsv24,
If you go to www.barnesbullets.com, look at the "Load Data" section, and then, in your case, the .224 button should give you Barnes' load data. Hope that helps. Cheers! McClintock |

You can use the same load data for the Barnes that Hornady gives for the 40 GR V Max. The weight is so close it will give you min max data that you can then work up your loads.
What powder are you planning on using and for what gun? For the 40 GR I use Benchmark with a REM 700. I had them clocked at a little over 3400 fps but they were not very accurate. My Rem likes the 50 GR bullets better. |

Ozzie, I have an AR-15 I am loading for. The powders I have are H335, H332, and RL-15 for .223. I want to get some Varget but its kinda scarce here in Dallas. What would you recommend I use?

McClintock, thx for the info, unfortunately the powder they require is something I don't have. I may go and buy some if that is my only recourse Though

Ah. Yes, Barnes unfortunately does not supply a great variety of powders in their load data. Hopefully Ozzie's data works for you.

afraid I cant help with the light bullets with the AR. I never load anything lighter than 50 for my AR or HK.
I will see a friend tommarow thats shoots 222 with the very light bullets I will ask him. |

I load those bullets in my .22 Hornet and use data for the 35gr. V-Max out of Hornady's 7th edition manual. I couldn't find any data, except in the Barnes manual, and I am not about to pay $40 for a manual to use it for only one cartridge. I haven't had any pressure signs with the 35 gr. V-max loads, but I don't load to max velocities either.

Most of the Barnes bullets come with some reloading data inside the box. If the VGs don't come with the .223 data in the package, I would suggest contacting Barnes. Ty Herring seems to be one of their best with the ballistics and reloading data. He has always been very helpful and responds pretty quickly to the emails.
