This is a gun-hater's wet dream and any legal gun owner's nightmare.

In more normal times it would be worrisome, but now its a disaster poised to strike. One wackjob flipping out and shooting people who violated his social distance (and therefore were "attacking him with the virus) or a turf war over toilet paper and the bill will be rammed through by people who need to "do something" and who are told this bill is what needs to be done.

On the other hand, it may not be as bad as we fear, IF the right people focus on REAL problems and leave gun ownership arguments for when there is no other disaster or crisis looming...

I kind of doubt they will, but one can hope...

With the news this morning all the talk about the bills being passed for the relief. The bill now has to go to the house where this bill HR 5717 originated. Senator Warren introduced from what I can see a duplicate of HR 5717 in the senate. I downloaded the Warren version and there is no number to her bill. Time will tell if they try to slip this in with current legislation posed as the relief package. The house bill was drafted January 20,2020 and introduced on March 10,2020. Anybody besides me see why they waited to introduce the bill???? Watch the left hand and forget what the right hand is doing. An attempt to slip it by so no one notices.

It only has 18 co-sponsors, and Maloney is the only one on that list with any real sway on the issue. I don't see it going anywhere.

Agreed...if you scan through the text of the bill you'll find it's mostly a rehashing of older proposals that also went nowhere.

If you go to the bill itself, there's the option to be alerted to any changes in status.
(I tried that years ago & my email was swamped in short order with all the alerts I got from all the bills I signed up to send me alerts. It was so nasty, I had to drop that email account and start all over again wit a different one.)
