This is what I bought today

Been looking at these guns for a few weeks, and doing the research on them, and decided today I'd give one of them a shot.
This is the PT709 Slim, it's the FS model and came with 1 magazine and no case. At some point I will get another mag from Taurus. It was $309 on sale.
I took it to the range also today, and I wasn't really shooting for accuracy, I was shooting for functionality....this will be another carry gun and reliability is paramount. It didn't disappoint. I put 75 Blazer Brass and 50 Fiocchi brand through it, and it never missed a beat. Trigger is pretty nice, and the biggest surprise to me was how manageable the recoil is.
If this gun turns out to be the great gun my TCP has been, I will be elated beyond belief.

Good for you! And the nice thing is, the trigger gets even better after about 600 rounds. I've been carrying one since they came out. Funny, mine came with 2 mags.

I don't suppose you want to post a pic with the TCP to show size differences? I don't think I've seen the 709 slim.
You ever thought about stippling the grip on your TCP or the new 709? I did it to my TCP and it makes a big difference, especially in the hot Phoenix summers.

Sure can, here ya go.
The second picture is the 738 laying on top of the 709. There is not much difference really. Thickness-wise there's about 1/8 inch diff I would estimate.
709 weighs about 8 oz more, empty.
I really like how this gun fits my hand. I looked at LOTS of guns the last while, and even after looking at Kahrs and Rugers and Sigs and H&K's and Berettas I kept coming back to two guns; the Taurus PT111 Millenium Pro, and this 709.
This may sound really stupid to some people, but I have a Sig 226, and I have a Glock 19, and the TCP that I have had for almost 2 years has been every bit as reliable and dependable as either of my other guns. I shoot a lot too, the TCP has in excess of 2000 rounds through it now. Because of that fact, I wanted to try another Taurus.

In picking up a 709 (for comparison use/training) I too was pleased with the recoil, low. No malfunctions at all.

The way my Wife dresses, not much chance she will carry concealed. But a purse that has a place for a medium sized pistol, that is doable.

She shoots it well also.

Yeah, I've been really happy with my TCP as well. The only reason I don't carry it as much anymore is I was able to pick up a Sig P238 that I shoot MUCH better. The TCP is no slouch though.

I wish my wife would carry, when she does she carries the Sig so I go back to the TCP or a full size.

The TCP v the 709 looks a lot like the difference between the LCP and LC9 wouldn't you think? We got the LC9 for her, but she hates it. I've toyed with the idea of carrying it as it is 9 vs .380 and the additional round.

Have you tried concealed carrying your new 709 yet? Interested to know what you think...

The Taurus site reads that this model has a new unique SA/DA trigger. How does this differ from most DA/SA triggers?

The Taurus has the ability to pull the trigger a second time (or more) with out needing to rack the slide.

That is the restrike feature he is referring to. It puts the trigger into DA mode when u have a misfire, and once the round finally fires it goes back into normal SA mode.

I have had mine for quite some time now and I really enjoy it. I carry it in my front pants pocket in a Galco Front Pocket Holster Ambidextrous Glock 27 Leather Tan that will hold the 709 nicely. Nice fit.

My next purchase is a holster for it. I'm very partial to DeSantis holsters, so I'm going to see if they have anything for this gun.
It would be really cool if Taurus made an extended +2 mag for this gun, but I don't think they do.

That's true....the trigger is much different than any of my other guns. I think it's a decent trigger though. It doesn't creep, and it breaks clean. It takes a pretty deliberate pull to make it go bang, but I bet the trigger will loosen up as time goes on.
Last night I had the gun laying on the stand beside my chair in the living room. Every time the wife would walk past I would catch her looking at it. She doesn't know I bought it, although she knew I wanted one, so I think she hasn't said anything because she's not sure if the gun laying there is the TCP or something new....I know she's wondering though, LOL.

I had this gun to the range again, and it's really a great shooter. 3 inch groups at 25ft are pretty easy with it, and the more I shoot it the better the trigger and the accuracy are getting.
So far I have shot Blazer brass 115G, Fiocchi 115G, and Blazer aluminum 115. This gun REALLY likes the aluminum stuff. The best group I shot all day with it came with the aluminum Blazer, and that's great because it's cost efficient ammo. I'm yet to put any defense ammo through it, that will be coming.
And I was able to compare back to back to back this 709 with the Sig 290 (non RS version) and the Kahr PM9. Neither of those guns come close in accuracy to this Taurus, nor do either of them have a trigger worth writing home about. I was really convinced a few weeks ago I wanted the 290 Sig, but I'm glad I never bought one now because I was not impressed. Maybe the RS version is better, I don't know.

Added a nice little piece to this gun today, a Pearce finger extension. It makes the gun super comfortable with a minimal gain in size.
