I found a S&W on an auction site, and it says the serial number is BUD7412. It provides no other info other than that it is a 357 mag. Any info on this pistol would be great. Thanks in advance

I believe 1971/72. The other number is an assembly number.

Well, the serial number dates to 1994/95 but I can't tell you much more without a picture.

1958. And yes, they are very accurate guns.

Model 60 S & W

I have a S & W Model 60, Stainless steel with wooden grips. It has Model 60 and XX131 A2 and an S that is sideways on the Yoke and the serial number on the butt is R217XXX. It is the only S & W I have and would appreciate information on the date of manufacture and value.

1978. About $400 to $450 is what they usually go for.

My father-in-law just dropped off a S&W to me....it apparently belonged to his father, but he knew nothing about it...

Blued, decent shape,,,maybe 90% finish.
Looks like a 3" barrel
Mod. 36
2385xx stamped on the butt.

Anyone that could help with some quick info will be rewarded in the next life.

Thank you much!

Thanks for the information Laytonj1. I paid $150.00 for it and it shoots great. Looks like I may be able to get my money back if I ever decide to sell it.

I only own one smith and wesson, however I have no idea when it was made Its a Model 10 .38 revolver with "thin" barrel, number is C8579XX.

Thanks for anyone who can give me a rough date on when it was produced

1966.

Regarding the last 2 posts, the M10 and pre-M10 "C"-series serial numbers run from 1948 to 1967, and they're more or less consecutive- the guns were built and shipped mostly in serial number order.

IIRC M11s (.38S&W) and M12s (.38Spl Airweight K frames) were also mixed into this serial number range in random fashion.

For a detailed year-by-year list of M10s and other K frames of this era, go to the following link and scroll down to the bottom:

http://smith-wessonforum.com/eve/for.../875107028/p/5

BTW I own a M10 with serial number of C623xxx - 1963.

Unless it was beat to hell, that is a great price.

Hi all.

I am not a collector of S&Ws but find myself in possession of three of them.

Most importantly, I'd like to know when my mod 36 was made and if I can shoot +P loads in it.

BCA 2***

Also my 686

DBR 3***

Thanks a lot.

Thank you very much for the info, Jim....

Just out of curiosity, within that date range, how are the values running? It's, of course, worth more for sentimental reasons...just wondering....

BCA2XXX = late 1988 / early 89
DBR3XXX = after 2003 (as late as my books go)
Model 36's were not rated by S&W for +P until 36-9 in 1996 but because they are all steel the earlier ones can be safely fired with them. That said, a regular diet of +P could shorten it's servicable life...

~$300 - $350. It really depends on whether someone is looking for a 3".
