J Stevens 5100

Hello All,
There is this J Stevens double 12 at my local hardware store. I am interested in buying it. The old gun is in really great shape even though someone in the past etched their SSN into the receiver and barrels. The price is at 450, so I think that's fair. I was wondering if anyone could give me an approximate date of manufacture. I know the letter in the circle indicates that from reading another thread that was posted here. But there are two letter in a circle. The shotgun doesn't have a serial number. Thank you for any help in advance.

If it has a date code it will be on the bottom of the receiver between the trigger guard and the barrel hinge. I'm pretty sure that Stevens dropped the 5100 in 48 and started calling it the 311 in 49 tho and they didn't use a date code until 49.

Thank Hawg,
There is nothing on the bottom of the receiver. I'll look again today with a magnifying glass to be sure.

Thanks for the replies. I did wind up buying it. Got it for 400 bucks out the door. The barrels are 30" and the Right barrel is Modified and the left barrel is Full Choke.
