Don't ever try this... if you know what's good.

Went to the range today. Loaded my Rem 870 with 3" #00 buck. Everything went fine; except the last round was a hipshot... you know, just to see what it'd be like if I didn't have the luxury to use the sights in an HD scenario. Never had any trouble using #4 buck, so how much worse might it be? Right?

Busted my middle finger on the trigger guard. Nice and black all around, like it was caught in a mousetrap or something.

Yep... they don't put buttstocks on them things for no reason.

Do you have a pistol grip on it? I fire my 870 occasionally from the hip just to see with all kinds of loads. Never had a real issue except for the fact that you cant hit crap more than 10' away.

That reminds me of the time I put a "HEAVY" charge of BP and BB's in a 28 guage Spanish muzzle loader. I thought I had broken my middle finger when I fired it!!!

No matter what position you are shooting from...

You must always grip the gun firmly...

If you can?

Nope. Which kinda makes me feel stupid. There's not a whole lot behind the trigger to really get a hold of and brace for the kick - other than the buttstock, of course. But that doesn't help when shooting from the waist position. I wonder how much it would cost to have one of those pistol mods put on it.
