1851 v/s 1861 Colt frame question
Just bought a set of parts from a member here (Roshi, who is a true gentleman in every respect) to convert a Uberti to a Richards-Mason conversion, those being the BBL and the ejector assy. I'm planning to fit it to a frame and then use a Howells gated conversion cylinder after modifying the frame for the cutout. Howells is close to me, so I will likely just drive there to obtain the parts and will likely let him modify the frame with the cutout as well.
The question is regarding what frames are usable for this. Are the 1851 and 1861 frames and arbors dimensionally identical, meaning I could use either one, or not? I've got a 51 here, but not a 61 to compare it to. Willie . |

What's black powder?
I'm a revolver man and sure wish I could help you, but, well, its not a Ruger Blackhawk. Bob Wright |

Within manufacturing tolerances, and with the exception of the "step" for the Model 1860 rebated cylinder, the Model 1851 and Model 1860 frames are identical. The arbors and lock work parts are the same, but arbors were individually fitted since the arbor controlled the fitting of the barrel and cylinder.

The 51 and 61 navies both use the same frame.
