Which 'lower' for a just in case or a new build?

SO, if the lower is serial numbered, and I want to get one while I can for a future build, what is recommended?

Are there feature issues or choices that play into a decision?

I'm thinking a 5.56, but I could probably talk myself into a .308 unless the price gets in the way.

Whaddya' think?
