Shooting Jacket

Hey all, just wondering if anyone out there has any comments regarding a shooting jacket. I've been shooting CMP matches with my AR for the last year. Half the shooters have them, half don't. Are they necessary? helpful? brands or styles?
Appreciate all the input y'all want to give.

My experience is that a good shooting jacket will tighten your offhand group up one ring (add 20 points to your score). Is that worth the cost to you?

Thanks for the tips. O.K. now, one more dumb question. Went to the Creedmore site and wow, what a selection. Have any tips. I'm a serious shooter, but not necessarily a serious competitor. That can also read "I don't have a lot of bucks, but believe in getting what I need" I like the looks of their Cordura Lite Model, but would I be just as well off with their basic cloth? Thanks again!

This may or may not help, but.... way, WAY back when, when I was shooting competitive smallbore in High School, the jackets we used depended on what organization the shoot was being held under. For example, if we were shooting a match under ISU rules, we could use a heavier leather jacket, with straps that could tighten it up for more support. If we were shooting an NRA rules match, we had to use a cloth jacket...still gave more support than nothing at all, but nothing like the leather jacket.

My point is, find out what rules you're shooting under...you may find that you're limited to one type of jacket. Hope this helps.
