Upgrading from 870 to 1100

I have an HD Remmy 870 right now. I'd like to upgrade from a pump to a semi-auto loading shotgun for HD and turn my 870 back into a wing gun. The problem is i've invested a lot in my 870. Ive got a blackhawk spec ops butt and handle, an 18" police style barrel, a holographic sight scope, etc. From what i've been reading I should be able to transfer most of those items onto the 1100. The most important is that i'm able to fit my stock and barrel from the 870 to the 1100. Will this work? If not what remington auto loader will work?

The 870 and 1100 barrels will not interchange... The forends don't interchange either... No Remington Autoloader will accept a barrel from an 870...

Good to know before I bought a 1100! Thanks for saving me some money!

Well ... let's say no Remington 1100 will accept a barrel from an 870, just to be squeaky accurate. An 870 barrel will work on a Remington 878, if the proper gas ports are drilled in the 870 barrel.

I doubt the stock will transfer either, but I'm not sure. The Blackhawk site should tell you though.

Frankly I don't see an 1100 as an HD upgrade, but I like 870s a lot, so...

Uh, yes. He said 878, NOT 1100. A Sportsman 58 or an 878 uses a barrel just like an 870 with gas ports drilled under the barrel ring. The 1100 is different.

I have several 870's and 1100's, the barrels and forends can not be swapped between them. Don't know if the stocks can be swapped either.

Personally, I would keep the 870 for home defense. I have an 870 Police Magnum and it is my home defense shotgun. The 1100's and Saiga-12 stay in the safe for HD.

Yes, you can short-stroke a pump and have issues, nothing mechanical is 100% perfect.

Short stroking a pump is possible but many more have issues because they tend to soft cycle the action afraid of damaging the internal guts when, in fact, these guns are designed and built to handle "cycling the action with authority"...

Agree... not only built to handle "cycling the action with authority" but some even require it. Especially many new shotguns that are still a bit stiff. Cycling these shotguns with the "got to be easy cause I'll break my new toy" mindset, will often cause cycling issue's.

Really? Keep in mind bears are part of an HD consideration for me. I guarantee I could get out 7 slugs a LOT faster in a semi-auto shotgun then in a pump action.

For what it's worth: A hunting buddy of mine claimed (and I wasn't aware of it before he told me) that I was able to fire my 870 as quickly as it it were an autoloader. I don't know if it is true or not, but some people can really use a pump efficiently. This same guy had a buddy in Kansas who could hit five flushing Bobwhite whenever the opportunity presented itself.
