POLICE THWART ROBBERY victim speaks out

Tampa Police Dept. thwart a robbery attempt. Below is a link to the article.

http://www.myfoxtampabay.com/myfox/p...Y&pageId=1.1.1

The victim was interviewed on a talk radio news show and his description of the event was most chilling. He was walking through a parking lot full of cars but void of people early Sunday morning when he noticed 3 males on bikes approaching him. He quickly change direction to avoid contact with them and they change as well to remain on an intercept course. The victim looked back to see the lead male pull his shirt over his head to cover his face. Now surrounded the victim is ordered to the ground at gunpoint. The victim removes his wallet and tosses it in the direction of the lead bad guy as he announces "here's my wallet". The lead bad guy steps over the wallet and walks up to the victim and points his pistol at the victims head. Police intervene and shoot bad guy. The victim said that the bad guy's eyes indicated that he was going to kill him. He said there was no doubt that he was going to die.

What would you do? For me once the guy pulls his shirt over his head to hide his face he's going to be at gunpoint. If any of them reach in their pocket or waist area its on. Call police ASAP.

Looks like disparity of force. If I was armed at the time they get shot. 3 or more assailant's is considered a mob in VA. If I had no gun at the time, I always have a knife. Running isn't an option as they were on bicycles. The only choice would be attack and swiftly. The person that is covering his face gets it first as he is likely the ring leader. We all know the fight or flight response. Being wired as I am, I would fight and only flee if I must. Granted, I am trained and experienced in fist fighting and a several martial arts weapons. If I wasn't skilled and an aggressive man, I would run hopefully not getting caught. Just as a dog will chase a runner, these predatory types will give chase and they are emboldened when people run as they think that they have the advantage.

Always be vigilant. SA is always at the top of the list.

I hope and pray that no one has to face situations like that ever in their lives.

The eyes are the window to the soul. You can see a lot in someones eyes. It is not infallible though so do pay attention to his body movements also.

Only 30 some percent of communication is through the spoken word, pay attention!

A parking lot full of cars?

Duck and run, zig zag between cars, climb over them, whatever. They're on bikes and if they keep to them, they are limited in their mobility, not to mention being able to draw and fire accurately with a weapon on a moving platform.

This guy did enough things wrong to get himself killed, luckily the police ended the threat. Hopefully he learned something.

You know it does seem like people do fall prey to the "being civil/not making waves/wanting to please/I don't wanna make a fus" bug at some inappropriate times. In this case I wonder if the bad guys called out to him, and he just sort of stayed put not wanting to cause a fuss by running (and zigging and zagging) and screaming FIRE FIRE FIRE at the top of his lungs, or something, while the bad guys were approaching. I think people feel self conscious and might not want to react in an inappropriate way, but in some cases you just have to assess the threat and go man go, and if you look like a fool afterwards, oh well so what..just as long you don't turn into chicken little
