Replacing recoil pad on H-S precision stock

I'd like to put a KickEez or Decelerator on my Rem 700 VS that has an H-S Precision stock. Problem is that the Remington hard rubber one on it now is glued on. Not sure how to proceed. Looks like it'd have to be very carefully cut off.

The next question would then be do I need to then glue a new one on rather than screw it on? The stock is awfully light hollow sounding in the butt.

1. Remove old pad, probably screwed and glued. Spend a few hours trimming it off, gouge stock.
2. Screw and glue on new one. Screw strips out. Glue drips on stock
3. Grind pad to fit. Grinder hits stock, another gouge. Pad tears. pad falls off. Rubber dust gets up nose

Dear Shooter:
Old WILDAKLASKA has been there! He's absolutely on target.
I would cut most of it off with a fine hacksaw and then grind it slowly off on a disk sander. Then I'd epoxy a wood filler in the hole where it sounds hollow

and then grind the whole mess straight and screw your pad on - when grinding don't get too close to stock - put masking tape several layers thick so you don't hit stock - IT IS A JOB!!!!!

My Dad's been in the gunsmithing business for over 40 years. People are shocked at the price of a recoil pad job. They've obviously never tried it.
