Custom Gray Finish on Custom 1911
I finished this build a couple weeks ago. But every picture I would take the color would be washed out from the led shop lights. I was finally able to find one that actually showed the color. The Gray is a in house custom mix. The other is deep flat black Gun-Kote. Would like to see what everyone thinks about the gray color.

Very nice colors! I like the slide and grips contrast against the frame. Pleasing for me to look at IMHO. I vote +2

I would like the gray just a little bit lighter. I do like the black trigger in the gray frame. Nice color combo.

On a modern railed gun the color looks great.
Like the subtle contrast between the two colors. Prolly looks even better in person, outdoors. |

Looks great. Silver to Gray, Black, and Red to Maroon have always been my favorite color sets.

I like it. I recently put together an AR kit with gray furniture. I like it a lot and get many compliments from those that have seen it. I like it enough that I've thought about getting a pistol with a gray frame to match it and keep together with it.

Zinc based Parkerising comes out in shades of grey. What shade depends on the metal is goes on. (Even an M1 Rifle's gas tube, supposedly SS, comes out grey.) Then it gets oiled. The oil will darken it a bit.
Dunno if there's a chart somewhere that'll tell you what shade on what metal though. A metal finishing shop might know.

Thank you all for your input. I have been working on several variations of gray in Cerakote and Gun-Kote. The Gray and the black have become my favorite color combo I like the contrast between the two it really makes the black stand out.
GarandTd was it a Magpul Stealth Gray furniture set? Cerakote and Gun-Kote both make that color of finish. |

It is Magpul. I didn't know there was a specific name for the the color. I'm guessing you are correct. I wasn't sure how I'd like the gray, but as soon as I opened the box, I was very pleased. I, too, like the contrast between the black and the gray.

I like it! Darker gray looks better. The SA TRP has a gray and black version as well but imho doesn’t look as good as this.

It will be easy to match your pistol to the color of your Ar since its a Magpul.
Thank you TxFlyFish. I prefer the darker shades of gray too. |
