Ruger Mark II Grips

I have a Ruger Mark II Government Target model with a 6 7/8 inch bull barrel. The gun is a lot of fun to shoot and is getting more and more use.

So, I was thinking about upgrading the stock factory grips to something else and have noted a few options from the Volquartsen target grips to more traditional Hogue rubber grips. Also, I would prefer grips that do not require any fitting or modification to the actual gun.

So, any suggestions, experiences, or advice would be greatly appreciated.

You have a number of options here of which you named a couple. I have used the Volquartsen target grips as well as the more traditional Hogue rubber grips, with and without the thumbrest. Would add that you should consider the Volquartsens, pretty much strictly for target application. I have also used some of the fancy exotic wood grips and again, just a bunch of choices here. ...

Not a problem as all that I have ever used and listed, do not require any modification. Go to Midway or equal and you will see a ton of these. You have a MK-II, so stick with that listing ...

They're plastic with a rubberized coating. Available in various colors. You have to drill and tap the frame, but that's pretty easy if you're handy.

I have a Ruger Government Target Model. I found the thumb rest Volquartsen Volthane grips to be a bit too much. I think what I have now are Hogue wrap-arounds, and I like them very much.

I have always been happy with these, although Im not sure if they are made by Ruger or not. I bought the gun second hand. Very comfortable and well made grips.

I had pacmyer on my MKII I loved them. My MKIII has slip on grips. I can't stand the feel of the factory grips.

I also like Rebs would like to know the answer as far as grips for the 22/45. I have never been fond of the hard plastic on them.

Me three.
Since the 22-45 is supposed to mimic the feel of a 1911, it would be nice if the grip was a little thicker.
The only ones that seem to be available for the MK2 need the original grips ground down and the replacements attached with screws.
There must be a way to avoid doing all this, with a replacement that can permanently fit over the original and add some girth.
The slip ons require removal to get at the takedown lever, don't they?
Any info much appreciated.
