Bayonet Lug Removal
What is the best way to get rid of a bayonet lug off an AR-15 barrel without mangling/destroying the barrel itself? I live in NY, and plan on building an AR soon, and all the barrels I can find still come with bayonet lugs on the gas block. I'd like to not have to shill out any more money for a separate gas block JUST for the sake of not having the danged lug on there, so how far do I have to go to make it 'legally' removed? Is making it inoperable enough, or does it have to be sheared clean off?

Concur. Metal bandsaw too. Hit it with a file and touch it up with paint afterwards.

Or you could simply buy the barrel you really want with a gas block that doesn't include the bayonet lug:
