Have been shooting a 700 Rem Mtn rifle in 25-06. My best load and most accurate is 100 gr Nosler Ballistic Tip.~~ Recipe is: 57.3 grs of IMR 4831 in a Win or Federal first fire or new brass. Win-Standard / LR primmer. It's a mover at a shade over 3500 fps. Load posted is not one for the timid at heart. This is a work'en load that has taken many MN deer. My idea of a 25-06 load is full house, fast, and accurate. anything less is unacceptable. If needing to shoot 117 gr or 120 gr. weights from my 25-06. Nope won't happen. I would then use my 270 win for that purpose with a 130 gr bullet. S/S |

Well from what I'm seeing from this rifle there will no need to stuff the case full of powder.
I'm not one of those fellas tha believe in pushing the max limits of a cartridge, unless it's the only path to accuracy, and usually I find accurate loads without the need for a scorcher.

My A bolt likes Nosler 100 grain partition with IMR 4831. Even though 4350 works ok I always saw better results in velocity spread and that always results in best accuracy. I also eliminated the 115 grain bullet while working with load development back in 1992.
My log book shows 14 inch penetration using wet phone books and expansion at .450. Retained weight was 62 grains. Lowest velocity was 3186, highest was 3229. 43 fps over the session. Best 3 shot group covered with a dime. Best 5 shot covered with a quarter. The load was 1 grain under Speer max and 1 over Nosler max. My velocity was 200 fps under Nosler with the same barrel length. Brass was necked sized. |

So do yourself a favor and pick up a pound of Hodgdon Retumbo powder and give the heavy bullets another chance.

Maybe my old rifle is an oddball but my 1971 Rem. 700 BDL .25-06 has shot MOA groups with Nosler 115 Partitions for 40 years and still does. (I did free float the barrel and bed the action back then and it cut the groups in half.)
54.0 gr H4831 CCI 250 W-W cases LOA-82.5mm (because that is what my free vernier caliper measures)
