I wouldn't consider "wearing security or police t-shirts" to be "in uniform".

... but if you ever watch how some of the narcotics tac squads dress for raids...

No doubt, but it would take more than a t-shirt and "I'm a cop" to get compliance, or deference of any kind, from me.
My response would be "Good, let me call your buddies over, we can have a party."
