Bull's eye, COM, K5..... target scoring.
I notice it every time but forget to ask later so here goes.
in the movie Magnum Force when Harry and the rookies are on the in-door range the target's best score ring is in the abdomen. I first started shooting human silhouette targets in the service in the mid 80s and then later law enforcement, its always been a 5X (we said K5) or the blue transitional and so on, but the best score ring/area was always in the chest. was the Magnum Force target a California thing or a Hollywood thing, or.... was that a common target in the mid 70s? |

If I remember correctly the old B-21 target was used. The K5 zone went from the abdomen up to the top of the sternum. It was the first target I qualified on as an Armed Security Officer. In our scoring anywhere on the target counted 5 points. it was quite easy to make a passing score. now they use the B-27 with the concentric zones centered in the chest.

About 1:35 or so into the video is where the target is real clear. It looks more like something someone on the set drew with a Magic Marker than any sort of regulation target. |

You're right Hal. That zone is in the breadbasket and low at that.

I noticed how low that circle on the target was.
Great movie although I hate to see police cast in a negative light. **I loved the movie "SWAT" that came out in 2003, so motivated by it I began the process to become a reserve police officer in Charlotte, NC. I remember former SWAT officers were advisers for the filming but LAPD would not take part, since the script included a rogue SWAT officer going bad. |
