Mossberg 500 plug removal

I convinced my brother to use his 20 gauge Mossberg 500 rather than his S&W 44 Mag for home defense purposes, but he's lost his manual and cannot figure out how to remove the hunting plug. He is leaving the chamber empty, so this limits the shotguns capacity to two rounds. Could somebody tell me what he needs to do to remove the plug, so I can email the thread to him. Thanks in advance.

Take the barrel off, turn the gun upside down so that the magazine tube is pointing down towards the ground, and shake the gun back and forth. The plug is a 1/4" wood dowel with two O-rings on it. It will come out the hole that the barrel screws on to. Hope this helps.

Oh, is that what that stick was...

When I first opened my Mossy 500 18.5inch bbl in January I thought that stick was just some sort of shipping/packing support and shook it out and threw it away along with the box! Good thing I wasn't planning on being a bird hunter. Five in the tube, one in the chamber makes a happy loader.

what's funny is they ship that same plug with their 7 shot guns...limiting the capacity to four rounds.

shake shake shake, shake shake shake. It will come out if the barrel is off and the shotty is pointed downwards. Just like everybody else already said.

Replacements are available. Just use an unsharpened #2 pencil.

Why not? I've shot clays with my 12 ga Persuader, not well, but I've done it.
