Holy mackeral powder at last

Just got off the Cabelas website and they have hp-38 in stock, bought two cans.
Hope this means things are breaking free, now if I could find some Unique or Universal Clays 'd be a real happy camper.

Congrats, it does appear the pistol powder shortage is over.

I visited my former LGS Thursday. I say former because it is no longer local (I moved away from the area a couple years back and it is currently a 2 hour drive). I only get there now when I have other business in the area.

Anyway, the day before Christmas I was there and bought an 8 lb jug of Bullseye for $124.95. There were many pistol powders available in 1 lb bottles but not much in 8 lb jugs.

Today, I stopped by and bought an 8 lb jug of Win 231 for $129.95 For pistol powder - the shop had 8 lb jugs of Red Dot Bullseye, Win 231, Universal Clays, CFE and Clay Dot. Red Dot, Bullseye, Win 231, Clays, Universal Clays and some others were available in 1 lb bottles.

There was a lot of rifle powder available but since I don’t currently load rifle I didn’t write down the names.

Looks like the easy times are finally back.

I just picked up some HP-38, Titegroup, and Unique at a LGS. They had a LOT of powder available.

Still thin down here in SW FL, but I did find some Green Dot at Bass Pro. Ordered a bottle of BE-86 online from Recob's up in WI as well.

Smokeless powder is still scarce in Central OR except for magnum rifle. I have not seen a 22lr on the shelf for years.
stuff shows up in small quantities but is always gone before I get there.
So for me the days of yore have not returned.

Powder arrived at two LGS just over a week ago - they are 20 miles apart but served by the same distributor I'm sure. Of the two powders I was after...... Universal was readily available in quantity at both (same lot numbers on the containers at both shops). HP-38 was only available at one and already sold out at the smaller of the two shops.

The smaller shop advertised arrival on their facebook page, I was probably lucky to see it and get some.

I am good to go for another 6 months at least!

"Over?" Let's not get ahead of ourselves.

But yes, things are definitely easing.

I picked up 4 Lbs (4 @ 1Lb) of HP-38 too. And for me personally, that was the last powder I needed. It's likely to be a year before I make another powder purchase. I'm finally stocked up.

It's looking much better for sure.

It might be looking better but it isn't great.
LGS had one each 8# jug of Bullseye & HP-38, $200 for either.
That's all the pistol powder they had. Rifle powders were stocked pretty good with 1# containers but nothing bigger.
Still, it's more than they had 6 months ago.

I broke out my last pound of Universal expecting to be able to buy more in the next month or so. I have other powders if I'm wrong, but I got tired of not using Universal in .357.

I saw 8# jugs of win 231 at a few gun shows last month but at $200 I passed.

Went back to the website this morning and they are sold out. Hated to order the stuff online as I have to pay the $20 hazmat fee. Total came to $77.80
which makes it $38.90 a can, not what I would call a bargain but since I'm almost completely out of ww231 what's a fella to do? First time it's been available in two years.

I was at the sportsman den in Shelby Ohio and they had several one pounders of win 231 and a couple 4 pounders, I came home with a 4 pounder. First I've seen it on a shelf in 2 years!

jrobin3360, In the pic, the first 9 powders from the left are open and in use. Everything from there - starting with the Bullseye on the middle of the shelf - are unopened and many of them are two-deep, but out of view (the 28-year-old can of W296 down at the very end is also opened; but there's another new unopened pound of W296 behind it out of view). There's 28 one-pound containers total.

Should be at least another year before I'll need to look for more powder. And that is while maintaining a one-year cushion. There are many loaders out there with much more. It's not a contest. It's just to be prepared for the next shortage.

Bullets: Most are out of view. I've got some 12K in bulk packages on the floor, below the pic.

Burn rate is between W-231 and Unique. High bulk scale shape. Smells like fish when lit. Best used outdoors.

The unblessed stuff is dirty!
