Downloading 338 Win Mag
Trying to get my light build 14yo son out hog shooting.
I had him on a 6mm 788 but he is left handed and cant operate the cluncky Rem 788 action, Even I find it awkward. Tried a friends M94 3030 but hes not good with open sights Ive got a heavy barrelled target 308 but its too heavy to shoot offhand. Last scoped hunting gun I have is my old trusty Ruger M77 338Win Mag. I like it as its big enough for Water Buffalo. I will put a better recoil pad on for him. How much can I load down the 338 without inducing high pressure spikes. I have lee factory crimp die which I believe can help reduce this. I have lots of 200gn proj. I have ADI powders: 2208 (close to 4064), 2209 (close to IMR4350) and AR2213SC. ADI recommend starting loads of: 53gn 2208 (2575fps) 65gn 2209 (2695fps) 70gn AR2213SC (2705fps) Im aiming for lowest recoil, do you think I can safely go below 53gn 2208? |

Some ADI & Hodgdon Powders are the Same Exact Powder.
Google "Hodgdon Youth Loads" using H4895 powder. (AR2206H) http://www.imrpowder.com/PDF/MSDS%20...rs/Retumbo.pdf From the link >

The biggest bull elk I ever saw had been shot by a little lady sitting next to it while nursing a baby.
She said she shot it with a 243 in just the right spot, and it staggered a few yards. She said 270s kick too hard. I can shoot my 338WM all day, becuse I have a grind to fit large Limbsaver that has not been ground. I shoot 250 gr with hot loads 2625 fps in rifle that weighs 10 pounds with scope and sling. But I have never shot a bull elk.
