legality of using potato as silencer
ive seen you can do this and it actually works but im wondering on legality? you dont need to register a vegetable class 3 if used on a gun do you?

It doesn't work, who told you that it does? All you get is mashed potatoes. Since it doesn't quiet the report, it's not considered a suppressor.

Lets see, put a potato on the end of your barrel and shoot it. I bet you could sell that gag to Gallagher. Then he could stick a shotgun in a watermelon and get the "Gunny" effect!

I saw that in a movie years ago and tried it with a .22. It doesn't work.

You can legally use just about anything to suppress a gun as long as you pay the $200 tax to the ATF first. But since putting a potato on a muzzle does not reduce noise, it is an expensive and stupid experiment. You are better off with a plastic bottle full of mesh, but it works poorly. There is no substitute for a well made silencer. They are easy to make and legal in most states; you might want to try one if you can.
