Does anyone make a 450 Bushmaster suppressor?
I'm thinking of getting a 450 Bushmaster 'Thumper' upper for my AR but first need to know if they make a suppressor for it. I've looked around on the net but can't find anything.

That would be a project for a smaller custom manuf. not going to be a production item. I have seen units made for the 500 whisper.
Ask over on Silencertalk.com quite a few custom builders over there. 2200fps with that diameter bullet will be good and loud anyway. |

I'd be surprised. Doesn't seem like the .450 is that popular of a round as of yet, not in the AR platform at least.
Are you planning on hunting with it?

Yes, I was going to hunt with it. Silencers are legal to hunt with in Colorado. I'm also considering other big bore conversions like .50 Beowulf or .458 Socom. Surely they make a suppressor for one of those calibers? I do know they make one for 50 BMG but the suppressor is $3,000 and it's overkill for what I'm hunting.

What they make is what most people have, not what a handfull of people have, if you want to shoot custom wildcats then you shoot custom silencers.

Doug Melton at SRT Arms http://www.srtarms.com/ made a suppressor for my 50 Beowulf. I suggest contacting him -- just be aware it is custom work. Here is a video of my 50 Beowulf at the local range -- the suppressor will bring it down a lot, but it is still a big round with a lot of powder so it will make a bit of sound.

Decided to go with the .458 Socom instead of the 450 Bushmaster. Better ammo selection and it fits in my AR-15 .223 mags! The upper was cheaper too. I'll have my Class 3 dealer contact SRT arms and see what I can set up. I imagine if it's custom work I could probably have them make the suppressor a couple inches longer and get some better suppression out of it.

The 458 suppressed may be a bit quieter than the 50 Beowulf due to the reduced bore in the can. Good choice. I called and talked with Doug directly then had it transferred through my dealer -- that way I was sure what he was actually building for me.

I sent Doug an e-mail and he wrote back saying that yes he can make a can for this caliber but has never sound tested it or done any R&D to optimize it. He also said that shooting over 400 grains or faster than 1500 fps will be over 140 db and would need hearing protection. Bummer.

I have a 458 socom upper on my ar-15. The form 1 silencer I made for it is 1.75" by 12" and telescopes 4" over the barrel. It is not quiet. It is louder than any other suppressed rifle I shoot, even the 510 whisper. The 510W has a 2x18 inch can and is a single shot, so it has two advantages over the 458.
