i joined the darkside 6 arc build

i love my 6.5 grendel/creedmoor but i wanted to try out a 6 arc for varminting and coyotes so i grabbed a 20 inch 65 arms 6 arc barrel , ive got this mated to a km billet gen 2 upper with a km 17 inch hg , rtb bcg with an aa bolt, for the moment im going to put this on my lower i have on my 28 inch grendel but eventually it will make its way onto an ep polymer lower

going to load some 90g gamekings with some staball 6.5 in to get some rounds down the barrel and get it broken in , and my hunting load will be 70g nosler balistic tip varminters using either ppv or ar-comp at around 3300 fps

Very interesting build. Coincidently I finally got off the fence and acquired a AA 24" complete upper this week to go with my booty CZ 6.5G. (Need to get some 6.5G Magazines. Now you have to post this...

Please report back on magazine feeding as well. Thx!

70g 6 arc nexto a 90g nosler 6.5g

both hose cases are unfireformed so not perfect , the grendel is a necked down 7.62x39 case and ive been converting some of my once fired 6.5g hornaday brass into 6 arc

noticed some funky stuff on the shoulder of the brass my friend converted for me so im scraping those rounds , they need to be run back threw the arc die now that i know what the issue is

to start after running the gren brass into the arc die , it needed to be trimmed a good bit then run back into the arc die hard to move the shoulder back and size the neck properly.

my friend had only run the gren brass into the arc die as far as it would go which was not enough without being trimmed a second time , the brass my friend ran for me was trimed back to normal grendel trim lenght , what i noticed was after that first step the brass needed to be trimmed back to 1.490 ish and then hit int he arc die hard a second time , and then finally a small trim back to 1.475 , without the second step threw the arc die the necks are seriously way to tight

from left to right

left 3
nosler 70g balistic tip varminters over 30.5g of ppv should be around 3200 fps out of the 20 inch barrel oal 2.150

next 3 are 80g sierra spbt varminters over 31g of power pro 2000mr expected mv should be around 2750-2800fps oal 2.125 power pro varmint would get theese going a bunch faster but im conserving that powder for the lightwieght arc and heavy grendel bullets

last 4 are sierra 90g fmj gamekings over 30g expected mv in the 27/2750 fps range loaded ot an oal of 2.215 but theese wont chamber so ill have to seat theese deeper and that oal is tbd same here power pro varmint would get theese going faster but saving that powder for other uses

first up the winner of first round of testing

70 noslers over 30.5g of ppv oal of 2.150

not bad for arbitrarily picking a charge weight and seating depth im not changing a thing with this bullet now i just need solid chrono numbers i think i saw a 3315 flash on my chrono before it errored ( had chrono issues for all 10 shots this am )

and the other testing

top is the 70 noslers . mid is the 90 sierra fmj gk's theese flattened every primer so way to hot aparently and bottom is the 80g sierra spbt varminters , lil work and those should tighten right up

That is a helluva group for a brand new barrel and "random", non tuned load.

You have to be very happy with that load.

Thanks for sharing !

heck yeah deff cant complain i think thats the first time ive ever started a load dev and goten something that good on the first set of rounds

on the other hand my custom mcgowen barreled 6.5 grendel will shoot anything i load into .5 moa and when its a good load its about .1-.2 moa but thats not a run of the mill rack barrel either.

ill also have a sixfivearms 6.5 grendel 12 inch barrel here next week to also build/test and after my results with this 65arms arc barrel im really looking forward to it

ive got 20 more rounds of that 70g nosler load loaded up ill shoot a 10rd group to make sure its good and get some chrono numbers and if it proves good it will be my goto varmint/coyote load in that gun .

ill prolly work on that 80g load as well to use on larger game this year but ive got plenty of time for that i dont get my antelope and deer tags till aug 1st and then genderal hunt is in october

the 90's im not even going to bother with really its a low bc bullet so ill prolly load those up as some shtf ammo once i get a load that shoots half decent and doesnt flatten primers

Ok, I got stuck at 28" grendel.....
Can you start over?

So...
"Does your bullet shot from a 28" barrel start to drop before it exits the barrel"?
"Do you often spook game when you accidentally poke them in the ribs while you're settling in for a shot"?
"Does a 28" barrel require a special pickup with yellow flashing lights and a 'wide load' sign when you go to the range?"

All that joking being said, I'm mostly just jealous when I look at your rifle.
And you're a much better shot than I am.
Congrats all around.

Can you use a 28" barrel as a walking stick when you get old?

Well Mel, after seeing your results and clicking on six five and discovering that the barrel you have is only $159--I ordered one! So that's now one atn and one barrel to your credit. I have a useless AR in 350L which I think is going to sacrifice itself for this project.
