Also, mounting on a rail give you a lot of flexibility on fore/aft movement of the scope.

I'm kinda stuck on a Leupold VX-2 2-7x33 right now...
anything on Tru-glo scopes?
Also interested in Sig Sauer optics, I know they build quality firearms but I have never heard much of there optics.
It's tapped for a rail I have to get one though.

Vortex builds a very nice scope from what I've heard to

The Leupold would work just as well as a Vortex.

That Leupold would be a great choice for that rifle. My dad has the same gun in 450 Marlin and he loves it. I could hand load for it, but he is content with the 325 FTX Levlution? loads.

How's your shoulder?

Did some hunting with my grandfather in Freehold back in the 50's.

Good luck with your new rifle.

Don't forget about the Redfield Revolution in 2-7x33. It's a Leupold Rifleman with different badging. With a little searching around, they can be had for $150. The Sig scopes I have looked at didn't have the kind of eye relief I would want in a 45-70 scope.

The Marlin 1895s in .45-70 are great guns, and fun. Handloads with the Hornady 300 grain hollow points or 350 grain flat points are all you'll need in the Catskills. Wild West Guns in Anchorage, AK can rechamber it for the .457 Mag., if you decide you want more excitement!

Love the screen name... grin

I have the same rifle...45-70
what ever scope you get... make sure you have 2.5 or MORE inches of eye relief! Don't ask
