I do handload, but for .45 ACP and 10mm only. Never shot enough .30-30 to bother and it was cheap back then. But now that it's expensive and I have a Winchester 94 also to play with it's getting more attractive.

If you already handload .30-30, then why pray tell do you NOT have a .30-30 barrel?

Alas, I only have a scoped 10" .44 mag barrel, but I have always wanted more.

Where are some good sources for Contender barrels? I thought they weren't making them anymore. Or are the Encore barrels compatible with the older Contender models?

The 3 main sites I buy my Contender barrels from are:

Graybeard Outdoors

Ebay

Ed's Contenders

Other sites will have them in their buy and sell forums from time to time including The Firing Line. Ed's and Graybeard are pretty dedicated to the T/C guns.

The Encore barrels will not fit the Contender frames.

I'm buying my first 'Tender on Monday from Ed's Contenders here in OKC. She'll be chambered for 7-30 Waters and will be an awesome deer slayer. (Actually a pig slayer too, but deer slayer just sounds better.)

What a lot of people don't realize is that if one collected one T/C contender barrel of every caliber in every barrel configuration, length & barrel finish offered over the years by the factory, one would have a collection somewhere on the other side of 600 barrels or so. That's not counting the custom shop or aftermarket barrels that are available.

After wanting to buy one since the mid 80's I just picked up my first TC. DOB july thru December 1983 with four barrels with rubber stocks, 4 forearms and 2 scopes.

30 Herrett Super 14 inch
Ribbed 357 mag without a choke but threaded for one, 10 inch barrel. I don't care much for how this barrel looks.
.223 Super 14 inch
.44 Mag bull barrel 10 inch.
I can envision a couple more barrels

1. 45 ACP
2 .9mm
3. .22 LR match

Huh? Is there such a barrel? .357? Chokes? What would one shoot that requires a choke?
Did you mean the .45 Colt/.410 barrel?

357 .HOT SHOT & 44 MAG HOT SHOT with external chokes . Owned both over the years . You must remove the chokes to fire regular ammo . Bagged a few tree rats in my days .

Just got a really nice 25-35 10" oct. from Ed's with matching old style grip and forearm. Now time to find another frame, this will make 2 complete Contenders as my other is a 10" bull 357 Max with a 2X Redfield. Fantastic guns!

44Mag 14" bull - magna ported (does anyone remember "Magna Porting")
223Rem 14" bull - man was that ever loud!!

Sold all to a buddy who used to borrow it all the time to hunt - he got more deer with that 44 then I did. But I think I got more milk jugs!!

Now...
Black Panther Etched frame with packmyre grips for pistol and Choate stock for rifle. Also added a mercury recoil tamer in the butt of the choate for the 45/70, but it stays there for the other one. Black on black looks great.

Super 14 - 7-30 waters, Howitzer muzzle brake installed by EABCO. Awesome in taming this round and sub-MOA accuracy with reloads.

Super 14 - 45/70 Govt, hang on or eat the hammer!!

23" Carbine - 45/70 Govt, Bought this to play with 38 and 40cal sabots
23" Carbine - 6.8SPC, want to see how accurate I can get to 3-400yards??

I hope to find some info on here about the 6.8 in longer barrels with up to 130gr bullets (high SD's for hunting penetration). Lots of talk about no better velocity than the 16" AR, but I think those folks don't consider slower powders. Perhaps they are only testing the fast burning AR specific loads. And you can seat much longer bullets in the Contender then possible in the AR magazines (I have a nice bison 20" in 6.8 too). Now I have a light deer rifle with minimal recoil and very well balanced.

I sold one frame and a few barrels some years ago. I still have one frame and two 7mm TCU. one is a 10 and the other a 14 inch. I shot IHMSA with the 7TCU for years.

I've got a stainless frame and a blued frame; have a 3030 14" with muzzle tamer and the Armour alloy finish that goes well with the stainless frame, a birthday gift from my son some 12 yrs ago. I also have a 3030 rifle barrel and stock for the blued frame, my only rifle barrel so far. I have a 223, and a 357max barrel. My return to b/p has hindered my collecting of TC barrels, but my 3030 pistol set up has gotten the most deer of any of my guns. The 223 went to South Dakota a few years ago and worked great on prairie dogs and rabbits.

10" 22lr
12" 357Max

Finally bought a Contender G2 when I decided to go after a 357 Max. Bought the .22lr (frame + barrel) 'cause the price was right. Bought a 357 mag barrel and had it rebored for the 357max.

Have been enjoying trying out different bullets at the range, but have yet to shoot a deer w/ it.
