PSA AR47 singing in the rain

This upper I bought years ago (sans handle and BCG) for $149 remains one of my all-time favorite budget buys, the more so because it shoots 7.62 x 39 exceedingly well (at least with my 123 sst H4198 homebrews). I just took her out for a few shots in the rain while kneeling and shooting off my tailgate. The lower is an old frankenbuild which sports PSA's excellent EPT trigger group. Freefloat? Don't need no steekin free float. Now if I can just get it a bit more steady--the 5 shot group would have been closer to .5 MOA

PS--...that hand-load--it works really well in both my AR47 and AK.

I have a cheap ole AR Stoner x39 upper from Midway. I got it on an advertising error and they honored it for $179.99 w/ BCG and CH. For as cheap as it is I absolutely love the thing and it shoots 28gr CFE BLK and any 123gr American made bullet like yours does. We don't need no free float barrel lol. I accidentally ran over it with my truck and once I re zeroed the scope it shoots just as well as before.

Enjoy yours because I sure do enjoy mine. It's top 3 of my favorite AR's.

My X39 AR is also one of my favorite rifles. I love my X39 pistol also but the rifle is just a sweet shooter with any ammo.

I like that. I met a fella at a LGS the other day. He was picking up bolt action CZ rifle he had won in a raffle. It was chambered in 7.62x39 and he was asking if I knew much about it round. At first I thought 308, but then realized it was the AK round. I told him it was probably gonna be a good shooter.

My PSA (556) in gray MOE has been a great experience that I'm really enjoying. I'm getting ready to build one in ODG MOE with the EPT for my brother in law. I'm looking forward to comparing triggers.

I've installed 4 EPT's so far; it's an "acquired taste"--it doesn't really reduce the pull all that much compared to a typical stock mil spec group; but what it does do is provide a smooth, consistent pressure with "predictable" break. This enables me to get good, repeatable control and accuracy. I generally put them into "deep woods bash up" builds.

But but but 7.62x39 is inaccurate NO WAY your rifle shoots like that it's some sort of trick lol. Seriously though your rifle shoots very well and she looks like a keeper.

Have you ever tried any .308 bullets in it? If not you should try the 135 FTX made for the 300blk and the Speer 130 Hot-Cor FN made for a 30-30.

Mine has a .310 bore--which the sst's are perfect for--you find .308's work OK?

I've found that the ultimate 300 BO bullet for supersonic loads is the 110 TAC TX black tip. Might be interesting....

It finally stopped raining this morning and cleared off--but then also got windy. I was ambitious today and set up my Caldwell bench and shot several 5 shot groups. Unfortunately, I managed to choke and throw a flier in each and every group. While I'd like to blame it on the wind--or the relatively stiff trigger, I know it was me that pulled the shot. I guess I should swap out lowers with something that has a really light pull trigger and see if that makes a difference (probably not would be my guess).

My upper has a .310 bore also, and my barrel shoots .308 diameter bullets perfectly fine. I have a friend with the same brand upper as mine and its .310 also, but his doesn't shoot .308 bullets, so I guess it just depends and you won't know till you try.

Obviously your rifle shoots very well with a load it likes so it may only take a few groups to know if your barrel likes them or not. My carbine likes the .308 135 FTX better than anything I've shot in it. Killed 2 deer this past season too.

It did not go well, POI'S were widely erratic. Too bad.

I've had good accuracy with factory loaded 123 SST's in a nearly new Olympic Arms 16" x39. It shoots those as well as I can hold with the 2.5x optic.
Somewhere I came up with some Remington 125's that mike @ .3095" diameter. Those have done well in other 7.62x39 rifles but have not tried them in either the Oly or the NIB Hardened Arms that's been languishing in it's carton for 6-7 years.

Hardened Arms upper...you should shoot it. My Hardened Arms pistol upper in 7.62x39 is a great shooter and Hardened Arms isn't in business anymore either so I'll me holding on to mine.

They're weird about that, hard to find their bullets anywhere separate but last year they did a "release" (sorta like stocking trout in a lake).

I scored a few hundred of their 125 PSP's as well, along with some core-lokt and golden sabres.

So these uppers work with standard ar-15 lowers? What kind of mags work best? Would be nice to have another upper to shoot up the 7.62x39 rounds acquired. Anyone have any experience with shorter than 16 inch 7.62x39 ?

Thanks it be appreciated. We are in the time of inexpensive ar alternatives, which may not last.

Yes--it is like any other AR hybrid--barrel and bolt face different; all the rest the same, though obviously you'll need a 7.62 x 39 mag (like stoner's) or my favorite stand-by: cavity back 6.8 mag with front cut-out that allows me to "go long" on COL's.

Both AR Stoner mags and ASC mags have been flawless for me. If you compare them they look exactly the same, makes me think they are made by the same manufacturer. The only difference being the color of the follower. You can also use regular AR mags if you limit them to only five rounds in the mag, at least in my experience.
