Sending Part of For Bluing

I picked up a MAK 90 recently that is in excellent condition but the dust cover has pitting from rust damage. I am going to clean up the pitting but I will need to send it off the be reblued after. Can anyone recommend a place to have this blued?

If you had listed a location, maybe someone can point you to a local gunsmith who does blueing. I don't know why you would send something across the USA for a job that could be performed by a local gunsmith. I had a gunsmith near me near Litchfield, MI do an old Colt Police Positive for me. But, sending a part rather than just taking it in and dealing with the gunsmith seems like more trouble to me.

I live in MA and we have a lack of good gunsmiths, at least in my experience.

Forget about bluing it, have it Parkerized.

Lotta smithies don't do hot bluing because it requires a room with no other ferrous metals in it. The salts get into the air and cause everything to rust.
Kind of suspect cold bluing would be better due to cost. Nothing but grinding/sanding the metal will remove pitting.
Any MAK 90 that has pitting from rust damage has been seriously abused. Anyway, Gunparts lists 'em under 'AK47'. A used Receiver cover with a 'grooved rail' or a 'scope mount rail' runs $24.95. With rings included it's $34.95. No way you'd get it hot blued for that.

The rifle itself is blued, I want the dust cover to match the rifle.

Already done, pitting is gone.

On the contrary, the rifle is unfired and in immaculate condition minus the dust cover, not a speck or rust or even a scratch on the rest of the gun.

With all this said, can anyone answer my original question and recommend a place to send parts off to be reblued. I called a local place and they want $150 for the dust cover which is ridiculous.

Tons of places do hot bluing. Find one who can put it in with a batch that's already being done to save money.

Heck, just send it to me and I'll rust blue it on my stove. I have a handgun slide to fire up anyways

Actually, I was kidding about cerakote. I have great success with the Mark Lee Express blue. Easy, fast, works every time.

Thanks dakota appreciate the offer thats very generous but I found a local smith who came highly recommended that will be firing up the tanks in the next couple weeks and said it shouldnt be more than $50, I’ll update with pics once done. The rifle is a Poly Technologies MAK 90 Sporter, which started its life as a Polytech Type 56 Spiker that got caught up in customs during the 89’ ban and was sporteried for import. I own and have owned other AK’s and this Polytech has the smoothest action and trigger I have ever felt, even better than my milled.
