The hpbt leaves an empty space at the nose by using a jacket that is significantly longer than the lead core. This empty space allows the bullet to be longer and far more streamlined than if it had a lead core all the way up.

The polymer tip bullet uses a plastic that is much lighter than lead, and the also have a small empty space behind the tip.

This also allows the bullet to by made longer and more streamlined than a standard bullet that is a full length lead core.
