.45 Colt XTP MAG (300 Gr) & IMR 700X

OK guys, here is the situation... Loading for the New Vaquero, .45 Colt.

I was reloading tonight and ran out of my favorite .452, 255 grain, semi-wad cutter bullets. (I know, I should know better )

I am using 5.7 grains of 700-X. I can either dump the powder I have already placed in the casing and wait until I get a chance to get more of the 255 SWC, or I can load with these XTP MAG 300 Gr jobbers I have.

I have never loaded anything bigger than the 255 Gr SWC. These 300 Gr XTP's where given to me and I am wondering if I should use them.

I looked at the powder website and they do not have my bullet listed, but they do have a 260 gr HP list. Their Start is 4.0 grains of 700X and their max is 5.2 grains.

I am using a heavier jacketed bullet, do you think 5.7 grains is OK, or too much for this bullet?

I would say thats too much powder. I load 255s over 5.9gr 700x. I think a 300 is a little heavy for a large charge of a powder as fast as 700x.

Decided to dump the powder. I will retry with another charge weight. Thanks,
