How much do you pay for your ammo?

With my own cast bullets I can load any pistol I shoot for 2.5 cents per round.

How can I get primers for that price? Powder too?

Graf's, Powder Valley, Wideners and a couple of others. You have to keep an eye out for deals. For example Graf's just finished a deal where you buy 32 pounds of powder and you get free hazmat plus Graf's always has free shipping.

I look at prices this way. They are never going to go down in my life time whether I buy factory or reload myself so any componants I buy now are a investment for cheaper shooting in the future. I have been reloading for 41 years and the prices now are astronomical compared to the past and almost make me cry. I used to think shooting was expensive years ago.....shame on me!

Ya, I remember buying primers for 8.00 per K.

I cast my own handgun bullets from wheel weights I get free. Costs a little for fuel and lube. Primers about .03 and powder .02, I guess I am in there for around .06 a shot if I don't add any for brass. The price of the tools has long since been recouped.

Its hard to know what to say about the price of brass per shot. Sometimes I get lots of range pickups for free. Even if I buy brass it goes a long way. New 44 brass for .20 each. I guess if you get 10 loadings that's .02 per shot. So lets say .08 including price of brass.

With my cast bullets, pistol is $3.50/100 for light-mid loads. A little more for max loads.
Cast rifle is $10-11/100 average from 223 to 30-06 for target and 150-200yrd hunting.
Jacketed 30-06 costs me $10/20 to make top notch, long range hunting loads.

Out of all the handguns that I reload for 44 special and 44 mag are the most expensive. Here is a worst case cost with new components for 44 special. Starlined cases, Laser Cast 240 grain SWC, Unique powder and CCI primers.

With new components I pay about 37 cents per round for 44 special. Without brass costs it drops to about 19 cents per round. Still quite a savings over the 90 cents per round if I buy factory loads locally.

I am going to start casting to reduce my bullet costs.

For 9mm it is costing me 5.35 per 50 rounds or not quite 11 cents a round. For .357 mid power loads it is 6.91 per 50 which is almost 14 cents a round. For .44 magnum mid power loads it's costing 4.84 per 50. However with the .44 I bought a lot of Laser Cast bullets for 54.00 per thousand some time ago.

A friend asked me similar question “how much do you save reloading?”
I told him that I have never saved a penny reloading, in fact it cost me more to shoot.
Not per round, it’s cheaper. But once you start reloading you start shooting more, and once you start shooting more you reload more and it becomes a vicious circle. But a very fun vicious circle.
Last weekend I shot 200 rounds of 44 special. 50, 44 Mag, god knows how many 9mm. The thought of paying cash for all that scares me.

The last time I purchased factory ammo was before the last election, 5 years ago. A store in town had a sale starting on a Sunday morning, $6.95 for 9mm and $9 for 45 ACP.
I got there when they opened the door and took home every case of 9mm (10 I think) they had and 3 cases of 45. I have 2 cases of the 9mm left, of the rest 9mm. There are several thousand in sealed containers ready for loading with primers.
