Champion Workhorse question

In a nutshell, when decompressing the spring, the throwing arm needs to be at the 12 o’clock position. For the life of me I can’t figure out how to do that, aside from putting something soft in the ground to stop it which seems like it would damage it.

There should be a switch to cycle the trap manually.
