flatovercrest: Serial number BRF0001 was issued in August 1994, CAM0001 was issued in January 1996, so your gun falls in the middle. At a guess late 1994 or early 1995 sounds about right to me.

2nd HE .455
Howdy,
I just purchased a 2nd Model Hand Ejector in .455 (cylinder shaved to .45). Serial #326XX. Any date? Also has multiple proofmarks, mostly a circle topped with a crown enclosing various pairs of letters: BV, BP and NB. Any info? Thanks! |

I'd appreciate any info that I can get on my Model 10-5.
It's a police trade in I believe. On the backstrap it is stamped "MPDC". It has a round butt, a 4 inch tapered barrel with a five digit serial # D31xxx. Of course, it handles and shoots great. Thanks. |

38 S&W Special Ctg
38 S&W Special Ctg is stamped on the right side of the barrel. I found the same serial number in all 3 places talked about but am confused because there is no letter designation exept for in the barrel cutout there is a B to the far left of the serial number 48xxx, thanks in advance for your replies.

I have a S&W 22 K frame I got from my father who got it from is mother, Yes really it is my grand mother's pistol she used to head shoot hens for the pot and once shot at some prowlers who it ends up were FBI agents come to the farm doing a background check on my aunt who was a teacher on a AFB.
I have read the K was not added to the serial number until after 1946 and this is one of the guns my dad saved from the burning log cabin a year after he was in Korea so I'm thinking 1946 to 1955. On the butt it says K 127### Last edited by VonDan; March 22, 2009 at 05:46 AM. |

K127XXX would date form 1951. In that year, the serial numbers ran form K104048 thru K136690. This is per the Standard Catalog of Smith & Wesson.

@ laytonj1
@ Jimbo-Indy Thanks guys that was quick. Any idea what the value of these are? Not that I'm thinking of selling I'm just curious. I have used this pistol since about 1977 when I was 10 and it has the best balance and feel of any handgun I have held. |

I've only got a couple Smiths (two new ones) but I have my grandfathers .32 S&W long SN 512XX. I've always been curious as to when it was made. Any help would be appreciated.

Can anyone help me date my dad's S&W? It has a five inch barrel, double action, four digit serial number located on the metal front of the grip. Serial number is 57XX. He bought it from an old man 30 years ago. Any help appreciated.

Jim,
Thanks for responding. It is a .38 caliber, but that is the only number we can find anywhere. There are no letters. It does have 'Smith & Wesson' and then several patent dates engraved into the barrel and a seal on the side that says 'trademark'. |
