Jim, I'm going on the sellers information as to the serial number. I did locate the information I needed. This one was produced in early 1940.
I also sent you a P/M. Thanks again, old bear |

Sorry that I don't have my reference book handy to look up any particulars but historically, a star at the end of the serial number on a S&W has denoted a return trip to the factory for work, alteration or refinishing. Hopefully some greater minds can share more information.

S&W hand ejector model of 1905
I have a revolver that I believe to be a S&W hand ejector model of 1905, 2nd change.
Serial Number 142xxx I believe this gun was manufactured in either 1908 or 1909 and I was wondering if I am right about the model and if so what is the value of such a gun? Also this gun has a hard black rubber grip that looks original instead of the checkered walnut that is usually seen on model 10s. Last edited by JonahKing; August 14, 2015 at 01:18 PM. |

"Value" is going to be very tough to judge on your revolver... especially when you haven't added pictures or even much of a description of it's condition.
This thread is a great place to find out about the age & identity of the revolver but for a better string of opinions on it's value, start a whole new thread and add pictures and detailed descriptions. Sorry I can't help more, I have two old ones but both are the more common 4th Change.

Based on the pictures, value would be low, maybe $300 range. Jim |

S&W DOB
Hello everyone, I'm living Belgium and have no way to check the date or year of manufacture of my S&W right here so, maybe could you help me to find them ?
I have : - mod 66 serial BHY251X - mod 64-3 serial AFL894X - mod 64-3 serial AJE608X - mod 60 serial AYP483X And pistol : - mod 5906 serial VAC855X I replaced the last digit by a "X" for confidentiality. Thanks a lot to, everyone ! |

- mod 66 serial BHY251X
Book is a little sketchy with these numbers... I think this is because S&W got in the habit of "reserving" some ranges for future use. With that said, I believe you are looking at 1992 date. - mod 64-3 serial AFL894X Late 1984 for this one. - mod 64-3 serial AJE608X Confusing for the same reasons as above, but appears to be mid to late 1985. - mod 60 serial AYP483X January of 1988. Model 5906 serial VAC855x 1994...I think! My source is the phenomenal Standard Catalog of S&W, but I have only the second edition. The 3rd is "current" but also old... the 4th Edition is at the tail end of being written RIGHT NOW! I can't wait to get it and I hope it makes many of these serial number questions a bit easier to answer - and with more accurate and confident answers. Hope that helps!

Hi Sevens and thanks for your help !!! It really helps me ! i thought that my 66 model was not new when i bought it in 93 but it appears that it was. I only shot some hundred cartridges with it. For the other ones, they came from Belgian police and i really had no idea about their age.. Now i know. they still looks good. Thanks again for your help !!! Laurent.

K38 Target Masterpiece
This is my first ever post and thank you in advance to anyone who can help.
I have been givin a S&W K38 Target Masterpiece. Its a 5 screw model and in 98% or better condition. It has a serial number of K898XX. That serial number is also stamped in the underside of the Magna grip panels as well. Can anyone date this particular revolver for me? |
