Which one should I buy?
I have my eye on a Pietta Hickok 51 Navy or an Uberti stock 51 Navy.
Right now, they are about the same price due to Cabelas BP sale. Or I could get a Pietta stock 51 Navy for about $200 at cabelas. Any advice as to recent Pietta quality vs Uberti quality? Maybe I will just buy one of each!! Thanks |

Get the Pietta Hickok. I have three Uberti 51's and two of the Hickok Piettas. Quality looks and shootability the Hickok wins hands down and I never thought I would be saying that. Not that the Ubertis are bad just that the Hickoks are that good.

They are right purdy too!!
Is there a Hickok grip that can be used to replace the stock faux ivory that Pietta puts on them? I was under the assumption Wild Bill's had a Liberty Eagle on them or some such thing. If so, where would I procure such an item? |

I have a Hickok '51 from Cabelas. Purdy lil' thing. I would think though that a new Uberti '51 would have a better finish. Its a tough choice but I'd probably lean towards the Uberti. Really a coin toss if both are the same price.

ClemBert. I have three Uberti 51's and the Hickok finish has them beat hands down. Not to mention that both of my Hickoks shot to point of aim right out of the box. If it sounds like I'm enthused about them well it's because I am.

Buy the Hickok. Quality is as good as a Uberti and it looks better. I've got one and it's a gem.

I was waiting for Fingers to chime in! With the collection he has I figured there had to be a Hickok in there somewhere. Thanks for the info and advice.
The Buffalo Brothers grips look good. I'm wondering if the Hickok eagle is moved or changed in any way since there is a screw holding the stock grips on and it looks like it would be right in the middle of the eagle. Am I missing something? |

I believe those are a one piece grip meaning you would have to drive out the locator pin on the grip frame to install the grips. Like all single actions they would need to be final fitted to the gun.

Denster is correct. The Buffalo Bros. grips are one piece. They'll come as three pieces that you glue together to form a one piece grip when fitted.
Denster has a pair of them that he has taken out and shot, as well as written a couple of excellent reports on. http://thefiringline.com/forums/show...07#post4183407 and http://thefiringline.com/forums/showthread.php?t=420010

The Cabelas website has the Hickok's backordered for 1-2 weeks. Is that an actual 2 weeks or am I going to be waiting 6 months if I order one now? Planning on shipping it to the store and picking it up since I live in New Jersey, land of crazy gun laws.

I dpoubt Cabela's would be out of stock for long also the sale price may not be on if you wait. Since you have to pick it up in store anyway why not call the store and see if they have them in stock. Just because distrubution is back ordered doesn't mean they are out of stock in the stores.

I was in the Cabelas about 3 weeks ago and they did have one. Just figured it would be gone by now but it's worth a try.

Also, I think if I order it online and have it shipped to the store I would pay the sale price since I am ordering it online while the sale is still good. Wish I didn't live 3 hours away from cabelas!

Might want to call the store and see if they honor the sale price. Glad I don't live in the Peoples Republic of Joisey.

Yeah they do, already spoke to them awhile back about it. Tell me about it! We have the highest taxes, the highest insurance, pretty much the highest everything. Lucky for me I live in extreme South Jersey, so at least I get a nice beach and some trees to go with the taxes. Plus no North Jersey smell!

Denster, I just looked at your profile and saw you are a holster maker. Do you have a website where I could take a look at your work?

Lukewepy. No I don't have a website. I'm retired law enforcement and holstermaking is my retirement business. I make mostly concealed carry holsters and sell on fleabay. Keeps me as busy as I want to be and pays for my toys. Do a seller search for shootist274 on fleabay to see what I make.
