best steps to refer to a previous post with a link?

Do I just go to the post and then cut and paste the address line using the 'insert link', or is that only for external links? Sorry, I should have tried it but my TV browser won't cut and paste.

That method works for post links as well as external links.

If for some reason you can't cut and paste on your system, you can always construct the link with your keyboard. Simply write down the post number you want to link to and plug it into the end of the following URL structure:

http://thefiringline.com/forums/showpost.php?p=nnnnnnn

You can usually get the post number by hovering the cursor over the post number in the upper right corner of the post. The post number should show up in your browser's status field.

For example, in the case of your post above you would type out:

http://thefiringline.com/forums/showpost.php?p=6177569

Which would yield the link to the post:

http://thefiringline.com/forums/showpost.php?p=6177569
