PX 4 and a couple questions
Folks:
- For a compact model, is it a simple thing to find a lesser weight hammer spring and swap it out? Does it STAY reliable if you do? - What is the cheapest place to buy mags for the compact (15rd)? - Thanks. |

I have the PX4 compact (9mm) as well. Good pistol. I have changed out my hammer main spring on my 92A1 to the reduced D spring (still reliable on ignition). I'm not sure if there is such a type of reduced weight hammer spring available for the PX4 full size and/or the compact.
**Stand corrected, Beretta does make a reduced D spring for the PX4 line: http://www.berettausa.com/en-us/d-ha...pring/eu00043/ Here are two great sites I use a lot to buy both guns and mags/accessories.: https://www.budsgunshop.com/catalog/...mm+Blued+Steel https://grabagun.com/beretta-beretta...d-compact.html AZGlock13 Last edited by AZGlock13; October 20, 2017 at 12:25 PM. |

I swapped the stock main spring for a D spring about 1k rounds of Russian steel case ammo ago on my PX4 45. Zero issues. This gun is monotonously accurate and reliable.

The Beretta Cougar spring is out of stock quite regularly, I had to wait several months for mine. Several guys over at the Beretta Forum have used a Wilson Combat #12 or #14 Beretta 92 mainspring in their PX4's, they have said the #12 spring is reliable.

The PX4 is a completely different design from the Glock, and in many respects unique on the market. It utilizes a rotating barrel locking system, and DA/SA trigger design as opposed to the Browning short-recoil system and constant-action trigger of the Glock. About the only significant thing the PX4 shares with the Glock is a polymer frame. But the HK VP70 had a polymer frame first, so maybe we should call it a VP70 clone? Calling the PX4 a Glock clone is analogous to calling a Glock a 1911 clone. Afterall, the Glock and 1911 share operating systems, which is far more significant in design than the material of the frame. |

The cheapest place to buy mags will be in classifieds on various forums.
I've never actually heard of it causing a problem on Berettas, but be very careful about lowering the spring rates. The PX4 has a fine enough trigger already, why risk reliability? |

You can change to a D spring very easily. If Beretta is out Midway carries the old Cougar D spring which is the same. Put the smaller decocker levers on. Converted it to a "G" model while I was at it. Put in the D spring. Added the Talon grips. Goes from a decent gun to a great one. And even with the mods at a good price.
