Range Report--Ruger SRH Alaskan .454 Casull, 335 gr. Cast Performance, 26 gr. H-110

I went to the range yesterday with my Ruger SRH Alaskan .454 Casull. Out of 10 rounds the Average velocity came to be 1098 FPS and a Standard Deviation of 21. They were no barn-burners but, I was able to handle them quite well. I think they will penetrate quite well. And, at 25 yards, I was able to put the bullets on the target.

Thanks------------

Yes I bet that is a managable load, I think too many try to run the hottest load possible when a moderate load would penatrate well enough. All the penatration in the world won't do a damn bit of good on the tree behind and just to the left of the bear.
On a side note I shoot a very similar load from my 4" Redhawk 44mag. 300gr Meister hard cast @ 1125fps. It's very accurate and controlable.

Pleasant to shoot

I agree on the idea of not needing to run these bullets at full-throttle to be effective.

I was really surprised at how pleasant the Ruger Alaskan is to shoot with those loads. Oddly, I enjoyed shooting the gun with these rounds more than I do my Ruger Speed-Six .357 Magnums with 158 grain loads.
