What revolvers are must have because they are so good? - Page 4

Well the revolvers I always heard I need while I was looking for a 357 was the ruger gp100 and s&w 686. But I didn't want the same thing as everyone else cause I'm young and picky

so I looked a bit harder for unique versions of these guns and ended up with a blued Wiley clapp gp100 and a pro series 686 ssr. Both are great. I shoot the 686 slightly better and it has the smoothest trigger out of anything I've shot in my 1 short year of shooting but the gp100 actually feels better in my hand and I like the sights more.
The only other revolver I own is actually my first gun, a hi standard double nine. It didn't come with the 22mag cylinder but then, I didn't know about it when I bought it. Anyway, while this isn't what I'd consider a "must have cause it's so good", I'd say it's a must have cause I have yet to see another single action looking revolver that is actually a double action. It's pretty cool IMO.

Lots of people would tell you how great Colts are....I have only shot 1 like 3 times when I was a kid. So, I'm not sure.

I can tell you that a S&W 19 is pretty sweet. Get one that is pinned and recessed. The level of smoothness and build quality is incredible!

I also have j frame 640 which is a pleasure to shoot, even running 357's through it.

Ruger SA guns are a favorite also, but often require a bit of work to smooth up a bit.

Any of these are incredibly accurate. The 19 likes to put rounds through the same hole!

In addition to the ones everyone suggested I would also add Manurhin MR-73, Medusa, Webley-Fosbery auto revolver, S&W 547, and korth combat

Wow! Very nice and I can't argue with any of that. I will add that the new 2-piece barrel S&W revolvers are very accurate (for a lot of the same reasons as Dan Wesson) and are worth mentioning.

I think the most versatile revolver is one chambered in .357mag. You can shoot the full power mag round or the .38spl. A nice revolver chambered in .357mag can be used for target practice, plinking or will drop most any living creature in North America.
My choice was a Smith and Wesson 686+ (7 shots) but a Ruger GP100 is good too and was my brother's choice. We both got ours with a 4" barrels which can do most everything. They both shoot great with the advantage of the 686+ is the extra shot.

You have good taste. I'd add to that the S&W Registered Magnum (or pre-27) and Triple Lock, as well as the Colt Shooting Master and Officers Model Match/Target.

And for snubbies, nothing beats a pre-war Detective Special, or older Cobra, in my mind (and hands).

I like just about any S&W or Colt. The older S&W are my favorite for shooting although the new ones are good shooters too, they just aren't as pretty or as slick til you work on them.

I'm very happy with the two I have:

S&W 19-3 2 1/2" Nickel

Ruger Security Six 4" SS

The Security Six is my woods/fishing gun and the 19-3 is my wife's bedside gun.

A 4" 357 Mag in stainless is my ideal revolver configuration. Specifically a S&W Model 66-1 Combat Magnum. Great handling and balance with the K frame 4" tube and also known for it's a great trigger.

I like to shoot big revolvers like Colt New Service 45 Colt 8" barrel 43 oz $550 in 2012.

I like to carry light weight revolvers like S&W 642-2 38sp 2" barrel 17.5 oz loaded. $400 in 2014

H&R 999 Sportsman. Classic little break action and a blast to shoot.

Ruger Super Blackhawk Bisley. Best shooting big bore I've found. Not everyone likes the look of the grip, but it tames recoil like nothing else I've found.

Just picked this up. A Dan Wesson 357 was on my "want" list ever since I sold my first one back in the 70s. I cleaned the gun, loaded up with a cast bullet from a mold I got off ebay, and it put them all in 1.75" @ 25 yards. Love those Dan Wessons!
