best powder for 25-06

Im trying to decide on the best powder to use in my 25-06. I will be working up some loads with nosler ballistic tip 100 grain. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Has anyone tryed reloader 17?

Depending on your barrel length, R-22 is my top choice for bullets of 100 gr. or over, and a 26" barrel...or longer. IMR-4831 is a top pick for lighter bullets, shorter barrels, or both. Knock on wood...I've never seen a 25-06 that didn't love IMR-4831. Some swear by IMR-4350, but the '25 thrives on slower burning powders; if you want speed and accuracy, that tends to leave out the faster burning powders.

IMR7828, slow powders work best with this cartridge. William

Mine has done well with a few powders depending on the bullet weight. For the 100gr. H4831SC works best for velocity and acuracy. It does not cut as much in my powder measure either.

I agree using slow powders for the .25-06. Currently I use RL22, but 4831 works good too, in either flavor. I generally load the 117 grain Gameking with RL22 to about 2900 fps.

My load is: 51.0gr H-4831sc under 120gr Hornady HP, Win cases and Fed 210 primers. This load has worked very good on mule deer and antelope.
BTW, rifle is a Ruger MKII w/24" barrel. Those other powders mentioned are all probably good choices I'm sure; I just never saw the need to switch.

I never tried RL22 but have shot a bunch of 3481 in past it worked OK but now am using IMR 4350 with 115 noslers and 120 Hornady HP.
pet load always shoots under 1" MOA
49 gr IMR 4350
Win brass
CCI 200 primers
either 115 nosler BT or 120 Hornady HP

This is a max load in my Pro Hunter so you must work up to it, primers are flattened out, but cases last about 12 loadings.

I just recently fine-tuned a load for my .25-06, rebarreled .270 Win model 70 with a 26-inch Hart barrel:

Hornady 120gr HP, Rem case, CCI 250 primer, H1000 50.0 grains, bullet seated 0.020" from the leade: 4 shots at 100 yards measured 0.2742"

Sierra 120gr HP, same load as above but seated 0.015" from the leade: 4 shots at 100 yards: 0.368"

I have yet to chronograph these loads

I've had good luck using H-4350 with the lighter bullets and H-4831sc with the heavier bullets.
Have a nice day. Good luck and God bless.

Either 4831, IMR 7828, RL 22 and RL 25 will do just fine in your quarter bore '06.
