Springbuck in the Kalahari Desert
Neck Shot Springbok, taken at 85m. 80gr FFg, 410gr Great Plains Bullets. As can be seen from exit wound, bullet could not be retrieved. Dropped in her tracks. Not a very large animal, she weighed in at 21kg's, which is respectable.
See the open pronk. I have only seen an open pronk on a Springbok when they are dropped with a single shot to the neck, spine or head. Closest Springbok I have ever shot.

Now you see why the Springbok is our national antelope, and seeing them in full stride, and throwing a good pronk is lovely.
This one went down with a spinal shot. A smaller Ram. Lastly the largest Ram I have taken.

They're certainly pretty little critters! I take it that the "pronk" is the white hair along the back? Is that flashed as an alarm-warning?

They flash that hair to show that they are strong, and energetic. Predators do not go for Springbuck that pronk.

I was shooting that bullet out my Traditions Ranger in .50 Caliber, using #11 caps. 1-48 twist out 24" barrel.

Nice shooting. Do you use open sights? That neck's a pretty small target for a smoke pole at 85m.
