What’s the difference in cleaning brass with corn or walnut? Does one have the advantage over the other or should both be use both?

I use walnut for cleaning because it seem like a tougher material. I use corn for polishing and removing lube.

I use corn cob for all purposes. I do not like the walnut shells, they dust up and leave residue on/in the cases.

I know you can find walnut shells at pet stores. Where are some places you can find corn cob media?

I clean with plain corn cob media and polish with the green (pretreated polishing compound) corn cob media.
aggie_2010 - I get my corn cob media at any place that sells reloading components. |

I use a 50/50 mix. Takes a little longer than straight walnut to clean, but they come out with more shine than straight walnut gives.

i use corn cob & walnut mixed together...more corn cob than walnut. and when i want my brass to shine (which isnt necessary) i use Dillon's Rapid Polish. i get the corn cob & walnut at a pet supply store Double M Feed it's much cheaper than buying it at the local gun shop

In effect, there isn't enough difference to make a difference. I won't tell you "what I use" because it's irrelivant. |

I get it at a Grainger's store. 40 pound bag for about $25. I think this is what I ordered last time: http://www.grainger.com/Grainger/ECO...VR5?Pid=search |

I use both. Corncob for the initial cleaning prior to resizing and walnut to clean up the brass after handling it during sizing and trimming, ect..

Since almost all my loading, rifle and pistol, is done on a progressive, I use a 50-50 mix. I tumble them prior to size/charge/crimp; and tumble the rifle cartridges to clean off the lube.
