I know.

I will revisit this in the spring and summer. It will be 25 degrees here tomorrow. If I have any pressure signs in that weather I will certainly have them with these milder loads in the summer.

For now I am looking to see which bullets this rifle likes. And powders. I have seen pressure changes in rifles from winter to summer. And they were all in the higher tier. Also most of these loads are pretty mild. In comparison to published maximum data.

I could always keep a hand warmer in my ammo box.

Although I think that I will be fine. This rifle will seldom be used in temperatures above 50 degrees. And as stated earlier I basically stopped the load developement in the mid range.

Just got done on the range.

Of all the loads I shot. The only one that showed pressure signs today. Was the factory 130 grain federal power shok. Clear ejector marks.

The best shooting load today was the 140 grain nosler ballistic tip. In front of 67.5 grains of Magpro. 100 yard group woupd have been .5 inch, but I pulled the last shot. Lol I knew it when it let go that it was a bad shot. Still a 1 inch group though....

The same load at 200 yards yielded a 1.75" inch group

Ok. Got home and got the calipers out. Mind you I was running out of day light. And it was cold. My shots were not perfect. In fact I pulled a couple shots. And knew as soon as I shot. Anyway. I have 2 loads that show some promise.

67.5 grains of Magpro, behind a 140 grain BT. Put 2 rounds in less than half an inch and felt a shiver just as I touched the third round off. Even so. The group ended up being 1.07 MOA. Same load at 200 yards ended up at .973 MOA. Seeing how this load shot that well when I was clearly not at my best. I think I will stay with it. And work on it a little more.

The next good load was 71 grains of H-1000 behind the 130 grain Sierra game king. 100 yard group was .89 MOA. I did not shoot these at 200, because I was running out of light. And this barrel heats up pretty quick after 3 rounds.

With H-1000. I could see the muzzle blast through the scope. Lol there is a lot of powder not getting burned up in that 22 inch barrel. With Magpro. I could not see the blast through the scope.

Long story short. If I hadn't screwed that last shot up on that Magpro and BT load. It would have went from 1 MOA to like 1/2 MOA. I am gonna load more up and shoot them again on a day that's not so damn cold. When I can shoot more comfortably

Shot some more 130 grain game Kings with H-100. 72 and 73 grains if powder and CCI 250.
Both loads are sub minute 3 shots. Here is a photo of them. How I measure the group is outside to outside and subtract bullet diameter. Then divide that by 1.047 to convert inches to MOA. The 73 grain load was pretty stout in recoil. And had a small ejector mark. No burrs or anything. Primer was not cratered or flat.

I will be testing the Berger and the ballistic tip loads at 200 and 300 yards today. Will post those photos after I shoot.

here are the groups with H-1000 and the 130 grain Sierra GK. First photo is 72 grains, and second photo is 73 grains.

these were 3 round groups at 100 yards. This rifle seems to digest just about anything I feed it really well. Except for That Federal factory ammunition I had. All of the hand loads with H-1000 so far have been sub MOA.

I will do that. I will probably be done testing H1000 until I get my new Chronograph. I started another thread for the 140 grain bullets with Magpro.

So I was wrong.

I thought that H-1000 would yield low velocities and was too slow for this cartridge.

In fact with 130 grain bullets. H-1000 gave me the highest velocities tested so far.

Average velocity was 3305 fps. From a 22 inch Barrel! That is .5 grains above the starting charge listed by Hodgdon. SD was 18. Should make for an excellent hunting round.

Just picked up some Sierra Pro Hunter to try for this load. I hear they are built a little tougher than the BTSP. Plus they are cheaper.

Group size .944 MOA at 100 for 5 shots.

Oddly enough. I have a higher velocity and better SD using 71 grains H-1000. Than with 72.5 grains..... Could it be that too much of the slow powder being compressed isn't getting ignited properly?

As a matter of fact. 72 grains yielded an average velocity of 3303, 71.5 grains yielded an average velocity of 3305, 71 grains gave an average velocity of 3302, with a single digits SD.

I may drop another half grain and see if that trend continues. SD has gotten progressively better as I drop the powder charge. And so far this flat spot in velocity is 1.5 grains wide.

I can only figure it's because I can only burn so much powder in this 22 inch barrel.

Here is the Sierra Pro Hunter load I tested today. The horizontal spread there could be me. It was very cold and windy today and I was on the range for hours. Either way. Shoots good. And is fast. 3302 avg. Sd is 6fps.

Shot again today. Same results a blast time. Although I have found another load as well

140 grain Ballistic tips infront of 66.5 grains of RL26. 3149 avg. SD of 7. Shoots pretty good. Too.

Maybe a 140 at 3150 is a better hunting load than a 130 at 3300
