1858 seral #

have a remington 1858 44cal. is there a way to tell the year that it was made from seral # ? seral # is 86807
thanks for any and all help,

Not by the serial number; but there should be a date code somewhere on the frame. Either a Roman Numeral, or a two letter code in a box. Here's the reference to decode em.

Well, maybe.

Is it an italian replica? If so, then Finger's advice will suffice.

If it's an original '58 Remington, there'll be no date code, of course, and the serial number will decode to a date of manufacture.

If it's an original the only site that I know of that had the dates/numbers listed has changed hands and that information is no longer made public.

it is an orginal remington moodel 1858 44cal. w/matching#'s

I don't know what the ending numbers were on those but they were made up until 1875. Your numbers are way too high to be Civil War issue. I'm guessing late 1860's, maybe 68-69
